OMG!!! My Favorite!!!! Royal Albert Old Country Roses

Ok… so I’ve been doing this estate sale/ e-commerce/ eBay business for a while now and along with A LOT of help from my husband, I’ve gotten fairly comfortable with items like fine china or crystal. I’ve even developed a few favorites and I wanted to share a quick story about how I got a set of my favorite China so far, Royal Albert Old Country Roses.

I’m not alone, from what I’ve heard and been able to read so far it’s probably the most popular print of china in the world and I have a complete set of 8 place settings of Royal Albert Old Country Rose up for sale in my eBay store.

I acquired this set from what has turned out to be the single most lucrative estate sale my husband and I have attended since we started doing this in January of this year…  I had made the connection with the seller over a month before at the same estate sale. This time I brought my husband who is a pretty good picker and together we purchased some fairly nice crystal glasses, collectible Christmas items and while my husband was working the seller in the living room for some Lenox items he liked the seller’s husband informed him that he had a complete set of Royal Albert dishes, and they were new in the Box! Now, as I said, my husband is pretty good at this, and he didn’t even blink when the guy mentioned this. He just nonchalantly asked him about the dishes and said that he would check them out. But he really was not showing any interest at all even though his heart was racing because he knew we had success selling those dishes previously.

So the seller’s husband walks out and sure enough, he’s got two full boxes of Royal Albert Old Country Roses China, Eight place settings, a total of 42 dishes in all and they are brand new and have never been used or even opened. It’s not often in this business that you find a pot of gold at the bottom of the rainbow (more often than not it’s a Koach purse or Rolax watch) but here was one staring at my hubby and he’s still just as cool as the other side of the pillow so the seller and her husband won’t have any idea how bad he wanted them, or how much he was willing to spend to get it…. And then I walk in :)

OH MY GOD!!!!! Royal Albert, My FAVORITE!!!  

And I actually hopped & clapped like a little schoolgirl too. Mind you, the Seller, her husband… and my husband are all staring at me at this point although I will admit they each had different looks, my husband somewhere between stunned disbelief and hatred while the sellers looked at me like a scratch-off lottery ticket that had just paid out. The seller, with a huge smile on her face said a number and my husband just said something along the lines of … “Yeah”.

All right! so you won’t see me at this year’s Texas Hold’em finals, but at least you know where to find a stunning set of china. Either for your own set or the nicest wedding gift anyone will ever get. Check it out in my store along with a lot of other great collectibles. San Francisco Music Box

Have you ever been to San Francisco?

Or maybe you just like to collect music boxes. Either way this little collectible will fit the bill for you at a very reasonable price. Up for auction is a vintage Hummel music box with pulll string, it is 3" wide x 3" tall x 1 1/2" deep. It has a gold cord that it hangs by, and a pull string to pull down to play the music, it is encased in a hard brown plastic box, the scene pictured is a Cable Car climbing Hill Street with the picturesque city of San Francisco, Alcatraz Island and the San Francisco bay pictured prominently in the background. When you pull the string, the song “I Left My Heart in San Francisco” plays. The music box itself is in excellent shape with no cracks, or chips. There appears to be a very small stain on the left hand side of the box, however the stain is so faint that I am unable to get a good picture of it. On the back of the music box in raised plastic text is the word "Japan".

I was born and raised in Los Angeles, California but I think San Francisco is the most beautiful city I've ever had the pleasure to visit. I got to spend an entire week in downtown while working about 10 years ago. The streetcars, the bay, the bridges everything about this very cool older city impressed me. Just yesterday I was treated to one of the best NFL playoff games in recent memory when the 49ers ended the New Orleans Saints season 36-32 giving San Francisco football fans their first playoff win since 2002.

8 Full Pepsi Bottles "Swirl Glass" Model + Carrier

Up for auction are 8 Vintage Glass 16 Oz (One Pint) Pepsi Bottles including the cardboard carrier that date back to the era when Pepsi ruled over Coca-Cola. Each of the bottles is still un-opened and full of Pepsi. This is the classic Swirl Glass model of Pepsi bottle that bears the Pepsi logo introduced in 1973. However I believe these bottles come from a replica series that Pepsi issued in 1990 & 1991. These bottles have a very faint date of 1991 stamped in dark blue ink near the neck of the bottle. The bottles themselves are in what I consider to be farm-fresh condition as they were sitting in a garage un-touched for a number of years. They are covered in dust and the metallic bottle caps show definite signs of aging (see photo). The carboard box still has it's shape and the bottles fit in their original places nicely. But the box is showing significant signs of wear. It is very dirty, and although it is still in one piece I doubt it would be able to support the weight of the 8 full bottles. But as you see from the photos it still displays nicely. Purchased at an estate sale in Murrieta, California.

The Cola Wars are over but you can still own a piece of history from the era when the battlefront was red-hot and viciously contested. In 1975 the Pepsi Company struck one of the most personal and successful blows in the history of this century long epic contested between America’s two top soda producers. “The Pepsi Challenge”, a brilliant advertising campaign that time and again showed everyday people choosing Pepsi over Coke in a blind taste test vaulted Pepsi into the lead spot in the cola wars. 
The Pepsi campaign was so successful it lead to the ill-fated decision by Coca-Cola to change their formula, the infamous “New Coke” debuted in 1985 to an uproar from Coca-Cola loyalists who boycotted the new drink and forced the company to bring back their beloved “Original Coke” just six months after the imposter had arrived on the front. The fallout from that monumental defeat resonated so deeply and for so long that Pepsi somehow, inconceivably managed to outsell Coca-Cola at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. The hometown of Coca-Cola incorporated.

Since then Coke has recovered from that humbling defeat so strongly and with such force that they not only re-gained their top spot as the leading soda sold in the World, but also brought the Cola wars to a conclusive and dramatic end in 2010 when Coke’s “little sister” Diet Coke captured the #2 spot in soda sales relegating Pepsi to #3. 

By the way, "Be Sociable, have a Pepsi" was the 1958 campaign slogan that accompanied the introduction of the "Swirl Glass" model bottles up for auction here and that were used by Pepsi for the next 30+ years.

What’s your favorite duel involving the signature weapon of the Star Wars series franchise? The elderly Obi-Wan Kenobi vs. a malevolent Darth Vader in episode IV which as we later find out turned out to be a rematch that had occurred years earlier in episode III (when Vader was still known as Anakin Skywalker). How about Luke Skywalker vs. Darth Vader pt. 1 (episode 5) or pt. 2 (episode 6) or Cyborg General Grievous and four simultaneously spinning light sabers vs.  General Obi-Wan Kenobi in episode II The Clone Wars. Also in episode II, Sith Lord Count Dooku (Christopher Lee) managed to not only hold his own, but defeated both Kenobi and his young padwan Anakin Skywalker, a feat he was unable to duplicate 10 years later when he lost his hands… and his head to Anakin Skywalker in episode III. Count Dooku was also the Dark Side’s representative the first time we ever see legendary Jedi Master Yoda participate in a light saber battle.

But perhaps the biggest upset in all of these exciting encounters occurred when a Sith Lord by the name of Darth Maul fearlessly launches himself into battle against Jedi Knights Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi during the climactic scene of episode I, The Phantom Menace. It is one of the few times in the history of the series where the Jedi appear to enter the match-up with a clear upper hand. Two Jedi Knights? This same force had been enough to overcome the combined force of a Trade Federation Warship earlier in the same episode! But there was the emperor’s young apprentice with a two-sided light saber he fashioned himself and enough rage and hatred in his soul to easily separate the two hero’s so that he could deal singly with Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn. In a shocker, it’s Darth Maul who emerges victorious killing Qui-Gon Jinn while Obi-Wan Kenobi watches helplessly from within a confined laser-shield. Kenobi himself too would have probably fallen at the hands of the dark lord but the pride and hubris so fundamental to the dark side of the force short circuited Darth Maul’s rise to greatness. After disabling Obi-Wan in battle he pauses momentarily to bask in the discomfort of his fallen adversary allowing Kenobi to recover and avenge his fallen master.

My personal favorite light saber duel of ALL time comes from episode III and involves Anakin Skywalker vs. Obi-Wan Kenobi, but this three-way duel with Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Maul & Qui-Gon Jinn comes in a close second. And if you like you can own a small moment from that classic battle with these collectors’ pins. They are part of a 12-piece collection and are produced by Disney.

The Crow Eric Draven Action Figure 1999 Movie Maniacs New Sealed in Box

Up for auction is a 7” Eric Draven (The Crow) action figure, brand new still sealed in the original packaging. The action figure symbolizes one of the most tragic stories in the history of Hollywood filmmaking.

Brandon Lee, son of legendary martial arts master and motion picture star Bruce Lee was killed while filming the 1993 action film “The Crow” when a movie prop gun accidentally fired a live round during filming. Brandon Lee had followed in the footsteps of his famous father by first rising to acclaim as a Hong Kong and International film star before making a name for himself in Hollywood. “The Crow” was to be his first major motion picture in the United States with Lee in the leading role.

This beautiful 7" Action Figure is still new in the original package and has never been opened. Mint condition. Includes a movies poster replica, a miniature plastic Eric Draven guitar and a small crow in-flight. The packaging itself is still in good condition for being over 10 years old. But the corners of the package are bent and there is a surface tear across the "W" in "Crow" where the price tag was apparently removed. Some minor curving of the package. Several small dents in the cardboard package but no visible bends or creases.

VINTAGE Kennedy for President Bumper Sticker 1960 Unused Authentic

The United States of America has only had one “Rock Star” President and that man was John F. Kennedy. This EBay auction is for a piece of history from one of the most bitterly contested presidential elections in the history of our country.

In 1960, the Republican candidate for President was none other than Richard M. Nixon, at the time an experienced politician who had been Vice President under Dwight Eisenhower. The Democratic candidate and eventual winner of the election was John F. Kennedy, a handsome, charismatic young idealist with a beautiful wife and a political pedigree that made him more than a match for Nixon.

Kennedy’s sad legacy was woven into the fabric of this nation’ history in Dealey Plaza on November 22^nd 1963 when an assassin’s bullet tragically ended his life and vaulted Lyndon Johnson into the presidency.

1939 Copy of Gone with the Wind

The bumper sticker up for auction pictured above-right comes from that 1960 presidential election contested between John F. Kennedy and Richard M. Nixon. It was discovered in between the pages of a copy of “Gone with the Wind” at a garage sale in Los Angeles, California. The copy of the book actually dates back to 1939 and will be up for auction shortly. But the bumper stickers were hidden in pages of the book and are unused with the sticker backing still intact. These are authentic bumper stickers that date back to 1960, the sticker itself is Red, White and Blue with “KENNEDY FOR PRESIDENT” in bold White Text. In the small print at the bottom of the sticker is CITIZENS FOR KENNEDY AND JOHNSON, 261 CONSTITUTION AVENUE, N.W., WASHINGTON, D.C.  The Union insignia (L-320) is visible just below the letter "F" in the word “FOR”.

My Wife, Collectible Cindy (our youngest son Will)

About 10 years ago my wife and I made the decision for her to become a stay at home mom primarily to care for our oldest son who had been diagnosed with an incureable condition several years earlier. It wasn’t easy, but we managed to survive financially in Los Angeles despite the ever-increasing cost of living and only the one source of income. Unfortunately the downturn in the economy combined with the ever increasing costs forced us to sell our home in Glendale and move approximately 100 miles southeast to Murrieta California. In addition we decided it was time for my wife to go back to work. 

She decided that she would like to give a try to the auctioneering business and to that end she began going to garage sales, estate sales, swap meets and flea markets and even a local auction house in search of items she is now selling on Ebay. She is very good, has a great eye for collectibles and passes the items she finds along to her customers. You never know what you may be seeing coming your way via this blog. There are John F. Kennedy bumper stickers from his 1960 presidential campaign or 1930’s era streetcar tokens from Los Angeles and San Diego. She has a turn of the century coffee urn, collectible Star Wars pins, an 8-pack of full glass Pepsi bottles un-opened from 1991 and a sealed in the package Eric Draven (The Crow) action figure that includes a movie poster. There is a small collection of Teffin movie filters perfect for a beginner film student that she got from the estate sale of a Hollywood stunt man and an extremely worn but still readable copy of “Gone with the Wind” that dates to 1939 and includes photos from the original motion picture of the same title. Collectible China and there is a lot more.
